Tips For showing Vegetables

As you get in to showing your vegetables you may wish to take advantage of these simple things to gain more points.

Beans, runner, French , broad etc.– uniform colour & size with portion of stalk
Beetroot – even size not too big, main root left on, careful if removing small side roots
Cabbages – Solid head, clean, remove only minimum number of outer leaves
Carrots – Blemish free, equal size, cut off foliage but leave 75mm.,leave root intact
Cauliflowers calabrese etc. – not discoloured, loose or uneven head. Trim stalk- 75mm ,trim leaves to same height as cauli curd.
Courgettes – uniform size and not too long
Cucumbers – outdoor grown will be shorter than greenhouse, remove any sign of flower head
Garlic – reduce stem to 25mm remove roots and all soil
Lettuce – leave roots intact
Onions – Tie tops neatly, trim roots
Peas- 25mm stalk
Radish – foliage 30mm
Rhubarb – cut off foliage leave 75mm from start of stalk
Tomatoes – no greenery, except round calyx which should be left on
